Day 1 - Arrival Johannesburg
Arrival
On arrival at O.R Tambo International Airport guests will be met by a Welcome Tourism
Services guide who will escort them to the transfer vehicle. From here guests will
be taken on a tour to the Cradle of Humankind and The Lion Park.
Johannesburg
Johannesburg is the biggest city in South Africa and also the financial hub of Southern
Africa. Johannesburg is a relative young city, just over 100 years old. The city
is proud to be the biggest man made forest in the world and consists of over ten
million trees, making it a beautiful green city in summer. The majority of South
Africa’s gold mines can be found near Johannesburg and gave rise to the city just
over 100 years ago. Johannesburg is also known as one of the most cosmopolitan cities
in Africa with a mixing pot of different cultures from South Africa, Africa and
the world.

Cradle of Humankind
The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site is an easy drive of about an hour from
Johannesburg or Pretoria. Our ancestors have lived in this area for more than 3-million
years. By coming here, you are coming to the birthplace of humanity. The Cradle
of Humankind is a World Heritage Site first named by UNESCO in 1999, about 50 kilometres
northwest of Johannesburg, South Africa in the Gauteng province. Maropeng means
“returning to the place of origin” in Setswana, the main indigenous language in
this area of South Africa.
Lion Park
The Lion Park is neither a game reserve nor a zoo. It has been split into two areas
– one area for the herbivores such as zebra, giraffe, and various plains antelope
and other grass-eating animals, and the other area for the carnivores. The herbivores
roam freely around the area and visitors are able to view the animals at close proximity
at any time. The carnivore camps, which currently house three prides of lions and
a clan of hyena, are protected by barriers and fences to prevent the different prides
from attacking one another. By nature, lions are protective of their territory and
can become fierce and aggressive if other lions or prides enter their domain. The
camps are therefore divided by two fences - each about three metres high and a few
metres apart - and they conform to Gauteng Nature Conservation specifications.
After a fun filled day of learning guests will make their way to the Garden Court
Sandton City hotel, where they will follow check in formalities.

The
Garden Court Sandton City Hotel is within close walking distance to Sandton
City, Nelson Mandela Square and Village Walk, South Africa's exclusive shopping
complexes with their vast selection of restaurants, designer boutiques, entertainment
centres, banks and restaurants.
Garden Court Sandton City Hotel is right next to
the world-class Sandton Convention Centre, South Africa's premier conference venue,
which can accommodate 10 000 people at any one time. Set in an attractive, landscaped
garden with an outdoor swimming pool, the
Garden Court Sandton City Hotel provides
an informal atmosphere, which is combined with efficient service. The breakfast
room often serves a light or full buffet breakfast, and McGinty's Irish Pub and
