Freedom Route – Two Night Experience in KwaZulu-Natal – Durban & Pietermaritzburg

Day 1

Meet and Greet by Freedom Route representative.
Transfer to Kwa-Muhle Museum for an introduction to the Durban system.
Transfer to Cato Manor Heritage Centre where a tour of an era gone by can be experienced.
Tea/ Drinks can be purchased at the Coffee Shop at your own cost.
Travel to the Inanda Heritage Sites of Mahatma Gandhi’s Phoenix Settlement, John Dube’s Ohlanga Institute, the Shembe Church and the Women’s Seminary School.
We then take a trip to Groutville for a tour of the Albert Luthuli Museum which was home to the Luthuli Family during the Aparttheid struggle.
Return to Durban for Lunch (at your own account) at uShaka Marine World.
After lunch, take a tour of uShaka Marine World.
Transfer to Pietermaritzburg for your overnight at Botanic Hotel.

Day 2

After breakfast, check out of Botanic Hotel.
Our first stop is at the famous Howick Falls which is a natural wonder.
After the Howick Falls tour we take a trip to the Nelson Mandela Arrest sight which is on the out-skirts of Howick.
Drive to Pietermaritzburg. Our first stop in Pietermaritzburg is Alan Paton Centre at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. This centre offers intensive information of Alan Paton, the author of “Cry the beloved Country”, and it also houses information of other political leaders that had fought for Freedom.
We then go into one of the main townships during the struggle that is Imbali which was home to many of our Political Leaders. We then go to Mzansi Lounge at Imbali for township lunch (at your account)
Our next stop is the Pietermaritzburg Train Station where Mahatma Gandhi was Thrown Off and his philosophy of Satyagraha had begun.
Project Gateway which houses the Old Prison is another landmark in Pietermaritzburg that is a must see. This is the oldest prison that had detained many of the Freedom fighters during Apartheid.
The Gandhi Statue in the City Centre is also a must see.
The second township that we will visit is Sobantu.
After the tour, you will be transferred to Tropicana Hotel in Durban for the night.
Check in and spend the evening at leisure.
Dinner at the restaurant
Overnight at Tropicana Hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast check out and transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
