SAT Pre & Post Tour - Hluhluwe (3 Days)

Day 1 – Durban to Nothern Zululand

Transfer

Guests will be met by an English speaking driver/guide at King Shaka International Airport (pre-tour) or the hotel lobby (post-tour) and transfer by road to Thanda Phinda Private Game Reserve in the Northern Zululand Region.

Thanda Private Game Reserve

Thanda Private Game Reserve is situated approximately 300 km north of Durban, and invites you to experience ultimate luxury and world-class service. A full suite of animal species, including the Big 5, which roamed the area in the past have been reintroduced to the 14,000 hectare reserve, and guests can enjoy game drives in open game viewing vehicles, and bush walks guided by knowledgeable and experienced game rangers and trackers.

 There is also a wellness centre, which offers a variety of therapies and beauty treatments to ease the effects of life's daily stresses on your body and mind. The dedicated and professional chefs at Thanda Main Lodge will skilfully prepare an exquisite variation of Western and traditional Zulu cuisine. And you choose where you would prefer to savour the masterpieces that will be presented to you - in front of a roaring fire in the dining room in winter, under sparkling skies on clear nights in the boma or in the bush, or for a more romantic or private option, in your own secluded private boma or terrace.

The 9 luxury bush villas at Thanda Main Lodge are pure indulgence. Each spacious bush villa has a private splash pool and viewing deck, sala, lounge, fireplace and a full bathroom with an inside as well as an outside shower. The Zulu culture is fully embraced, by including elements of it throughout all aspects of the lodge, and guests will truly learn to appreciate the rich and still very much alive traditions of the Zulu people.

Afternoon Game Activity

Depart on an afternoon game drive with knowledgeable game rangers and trackers who have extensive knowledge of both the fauna and flora in Thanda's ecosystems. Animals are more active during the cooler hours of the day. Game drives are conducted in opentopped Land Rovers, with a maximum of six guests per vehicle.

Dinner

Dinner will be served at the lodge.

Day 2 – Northern Zululand

Morning Game Activity

For those guests who wish an wake-up call can be arranged and the delights of a new day awaits. The ranger will discuss what you hope to see that day over fragrant tea or coffee and morning biscuits or rusks. Wildlife on Thanda's 14,000-ha property include the wild dog, endangered black rhino, cheetah, hyaena, warthog and plains game as well as an abundance of bird life.

Breakfast

A fantastic way to round an exciting morning game drive off is with a hearty breakfast served at the lodge.

Transfer

After breakfast transfer with an English speaking driver from Thanda Private Game Reserve to Phinda Mountain Lodge.

Phinda Mountain Lodge

With wraparound views of the spectacular Ubombo mountain range and the surrounding Zululand bushveld, Mountain Lodge at &Beyond Phinda is a dramatic safari destination. 25 split-level suites crest the mountain’s edge, offering breathtaking raptor’s-eye views of the Reserve below. This much-loved lodge has recently been rebuilt and refurbished, and each luxurious suite now boasts a romantic ensuite bathroom, private sitting area, and spacious veranda complete with private plunge pool and outdoor shower. The guest area is a magnificent u-shaped building with central al fresco courtyard, which provides seductive comfort between exciting game drives. The intimate sitting areas are filled with sunlight, and the dining area overlooks the Reserve with the Ubombo Mountains in the distance. Delicious Pan African meals can be enjoyed in the remarkable stone and reed boma, romantically illuminated by dozens of candles and lanterns, or savoured in a spectacular clearing in the bush under an umbrella of twinkling stars. Phinda is renowned for its bush banquets in unique, unexpected settings.

Guests can enjoy lunch at the lodge.

Afternoon Game Activity

Later the afternoon game drive begins and lasts until after dark, when spotlights are used for a glimpse into the nocturnal bush life. Listen to lions roar in the dark or admire the small nocturnal animals. Enjoy sundowners in a scenic location as the sun slowly sinks beneath the horizon.

Dinner

A boma dinner is awaits at the lodge or in a surprising bush location.

Day 3 – Northern Zululand to King Shaka International Airport

Early Morning Game Activity  (This game activity is dependent on flight departure time)

For those guests who wish an wake-up call can be arranged and the delights of a new day awaits. The ranger will discuss what you hope to see that day over fragrant tea or coffee and morning biscuits or rusks. Phinda is renowned for its exceptional sightings of the elusive cheetah and the rare black rhino. There is also a number of resident lion prides and rangers will do their best to provide guests with a glimpse of all of these animals.

Return to your lodge for a delicious breakfast.

Transfer

Guests will meet their English speaking driver/guide at the lodge’s reception area and transfer to Durban for a city orientation tour. Thereafter continue the Durban where guests will either be dropped off at the hotel (Pre- tour) or at King Shaka International Airport for their onward flight home (Post – tour) - flight cost not included.

Durban City Orientation Tour

Durban - A multicultural City shaped by a complex collaborative history involving the early colonial settlers, the indigenous Zulu population, and the Indian community who arrived as indentured labourers in the 19th century. We travel along the brand-new Golden Mile, through the City, viewing the majestic City Hall and uncover the past’s harsh system of labour control at the original offices of The KwaMuhle Museum (closed Sundays – for own account). From history to nature, we visit the peaceful Durban Botanic Gardens. Lastly, in harmony with Indian culture and history, you’re going local...taste a unique Bunny Chow, a traditional ‘take-away’ food (for own account). We then conclude with a visit to an icon, the Moses Mabhida Stadium where you will have the option of experiencing the cable car ride (for own account) to the top of the Stadium for that phenomenal view of Durban and its surrounds.

Cancellation Policy

Should any reservation be cancelled, the following cancellation fees will be due and payable:

All cancellations must be made in writing and shall be effective only on the date on which Welcome receives the written notice of cancellation.

Please note a 14 day booking lead time applies ie. Bookings for this package can only be made 14 days prior to arrival and subject to availability at time of reservation.

Important Notes

• All costings are based on a minimum of 2 passengers travelling, with a single supplement, should a costing be required for a single traveller, this will be on request only.

• Please note that clients should be made aware of luggage restrictions on Domestic Flights prior to departure. Guests are restricted to 1 bag of 20 kgs only on several Domestic Carriers. Should guests travel with 2 bags – the second bag will be charged for at R300.00 which will be for the client’s own account.

• Please be aware that coaches also do not have capacity for copious amounts of luggage, hence we would urge you to advise your clients to limit their luggage

• Please note the terms and condition applicable to groups are not the same as the FIT terms and conditions on our website and our brochure. Once a group has been confirmed a contract fitting the specifics of that particular group will be sent to cover deposits requirements and release dates etc.

Very important note for all potential visitors to South Africa

• Please ensure that when booking a trip for yourself or clients that your/their passports all comply with immigration regulations.

• According to an international regulation, passports must have at least two blank pages in them when one enters a country, and it should also not have less than 6 months to go before expiry. South African immigration officials are very particular about enforcing this regulation and will not allow guests to enter the country should their passports be incorrect.
